Senior Data Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our organization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data modelling, with expertise in physical and relational data modelling. They will collaborate with the data analyst and data platform teams to analyze and evaluate existing data systems, continuously updating and optimizing data models.

The Senior Data Engineer will work closely with the business and analytics team to understand business needs and translate them into long-term solution data models. Additionally, they will collaborate with the data ingestion teams from different business areas to understand data availability and format, and create conceptual data models and data flows.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate existing data systems and continuously update and optimize data models.
  • Collaborate with the business and analytics team to understand business needs and translate them into long-term solution data models.
  • Create conceptual data models and data flows by collaborating with data ingestion teams.
  • Develop best practices for data coding naming conventions, default values, semantics, data dictionary, etc.
  • Review modifications of existing systems for cross-compatibility.
  • Implement data strategies and develop physical data models.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with physical and relational data modelling, with overall 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Expert knowledge of metadata management and related tools.
  • Knowledge of mathematical foundations and statistical analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
