The role of Security Engineering Manager plays a pivotal part in safeguarding the security and safety of millions of users worldwide. As part of a team of security experts dedicated to protecting the open-source ecosystem, you will be instrumental in addressing emerging threats, developing robust security measures, and ensuring the integrity of Ubuntu.

As we increasingly rely on software and data security in our interconnected world, Canonical's mission to deliver the world's best open source platform comes with a responsibility to set the highest possible standard for software security. This includes not only the OS but also the wide range of open source infrastructure and software that developers enjoy within the Ubuntu ecosystem.

This role involves leading the charge to establish security standards for open source software across the Ubuntu platform, encompassing desktops, servers, edge devices, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and OpenStack. You will certify core components to meet industry standards and guide development teams across the company in security best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a team of engineers ranging from graduate to senior
  • Coaching, mentoring, and offering career development feedback
  • Identifying and measuring team health indicators
  • Implementing disciplined engineering processes
  • Representing your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Developing and evangelising great engineering and organisational practices
  • Planning and managing progress on agreed goals and projects
  • Supporting products and customers to meet strict product security requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Prior experience working on FIPS/Common Criteria certified products and in-depth knowledge of the underlying standards
