Cloud Infrastructure Expert

We are seeking an experienced cloud infrastructure professional to lead the evaluation and transformation of enterprise cloud setups for clients.

This is a casual contract position offering the possibility to work with existing jobs and assess client environments, recommend improvements, and implement changes safely using Infrastructure as Code where possible.

As a key member of our team, you will advise on infra impacts for new software systems we are developing and collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing current-state GCP setups and delivering clear improvement plans
  • Implementing and maintaining IaC across projects, establishing reusable modules and guardrails
  • Designing and modifying architectures using GCP services such as VPC, subnets, Cloud NAT, Load Balancing, Cloud DNS, IAM, Service Accounts, Secrets Manager
  • Building and running workloads on GKE and/or Compute Engine, containerising where sensible, and tuning autoscaling
  • Configuring Cloud SQL / Spanner / Memorystore / BigQuery as relevant, backup/restore, HA/DR patterns
  • Setting up CI/CD with policy checks and environment promotion
  • Implementing monitoring/alerting with Cloud Monitoring & Logging, SLOs/error budgets where appropriate
  • Harden security (SCC, IAM least-privilege, org policies, VPC-SC, private access) and advise on compliance
  • Optimising costs (rightsizing, committed use/Autopilot, storage lifecycle, data egress patterns)
  • Writing concise runbooks, diagrams, and change notes clients can trust

Key skills required include deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure, especially GCP, experience introducing controls such as org policies, folder/project structure, billing budgets/alerts, and SCC. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, with at least 3 years on GCP.

In this role, you will work independently, communicate clearly, and deliver safely in regulated/enterprise contexts.
