Job Title: Climate Resilience Specialist

At our organization, we are seeking a skilled Climate Resilience Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in climate science and adaptation planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • We integrate climate priorities into national frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.
  • Conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors like agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritize adaptation responses.
  • Identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.
  • Support funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting GCF, GEF, and other international mechanisms.
  • Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.
  • Contribute to Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.
  • Draft technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.
  • Collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders to support implementation and resource mobilization.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields is needed.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies is essential.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections is beneficial.
  • A strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways is necessary.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs is preferred.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills are required.
  • Exposure to UNFCCC reporting processes (BUR, TNC, BTR) is an added advantage.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development is desirable.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches is a plus.
  • The ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning is necessary.
  • Skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies is required.
