Job Summary
A UX Lead is responsible for leading and managing the user experience design process within a company or project. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that products, services, or digital experiences are intuitive, user-friendly, and meet the needs and expectations of the target audience.
As a UX Designer, you will shape the digital experiences of users by understanding their needs, designing intuitive interfaces, and advocating for usability and accessibility. By leveraging your skills in user research, design thinking, and collaboration, you contribute to the creation of products and services that delight users and drive business success.
A UX Lead combines expertise in user-centred design principles, research methodologies, and project management to create exceptional user experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders, such as product managers and executives, to define the overall UX strategy and goals of a project or product.
Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of UX Designers, Researchers, and other specialists involved in the user experience design process. This may involve assigning tasks, providing guidance, and fostering collaboration.
Information Architecture: Define the structure and organisation of information within a product or service, including navigation schemes, categorisation, and labelling systems.
Interaction Design: Create or guide the creation of wireframes, prototypes, and interaction patterns that outline the behaviour and flow of a digital product or service.
Visual Design: Collaborate with visual designers or oversee the visual design process to ensure that the user interface (UI) aligns with the overall user experience goals and brand guidelines.
Usability Evaluation: Conduct usability evaluations and heuristic reviews to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of a product's user interface and propose improvements based on the findings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, developers, and stakeholders, to ensure that the user experience design aligns with business goals and technical constraints. Effective communication and presentation skills are essential to articulate design decisions and advocate for the user's perspective.
Requirements and Qualifications
This role requires:
- Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in conducting various user research methods and techniques.
- Experience with design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or Axure for wireframing and prototyping.
- Knowledge of typography, colour theory, layout, and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to create intuitive and seamless user interactions and transitions.
- Familiarity with usability testing methods, tools, and techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address design challenges and usability issues.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure design accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to think creatively and generate innovative design solutions.
- Willingness to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Ability to lead a team to deliver a consistently high-quality output.
- Ability to create a UX strategy that is fit for purpose and aligns with business needs.
Typically requires extensive experience in UX design or a related field, with a portfolio demonstrating relevant design work.
A bachelor's degree in graphic design, interaction design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees or certifications in UX design may be advantageous.
