Technical Strategy

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data engineering requirements and priorities.

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data engineering, and evaluate their potential impact on the business.

Architecture and Design

  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and design appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead the implementation of data engineering solutions, leveraging modern technologies and tools such as cloud platforms, big data frameworks, and containerization.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies effectively to stakeholders, and proactively identify and mitigate potential obstacles.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 6 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Typically requires 1-2 years of managing and developing employees.
  • Proven experience of 12 years in a data engineering role, with a strong track record of designing and implementing complex data solutions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, as well as experience with SQL and data modeling.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and proficiency in related services (e.g., S3, EMR, BigQuery).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience with several of the technologies we currently use: Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure; Data Pipelines: Apache Airflow, dbt; Data Tools: Pyspark, Snowpark, AWS Glue, Pandas, Databricks, SageMaker; Databases: Snowflake, SQL Server, PostgreSQL; Containerization: Kubernetes, Docker; Languages: Python, C#, Go, Bash, SQL; CI/CD: GitLab, Azure DevOps; SCM: Git, GitHub, GitLab.
