Job Title: ADA / PDF Accessibility Specialist

About the Role:

The role of an ADA / PDF Accessibility Specialist is crucial in ensuring that digital content is accessible to everyone. This involves auditing, testing, and remediation of websites, mobile apps, and digital documents for compliance with accessibility laws and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Test: Conduct thorough audits and tests to identify accessibility issues in digital content. This includes manual and automated testing using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Remediate: Provide clear and prioritized fixes for accessibility issues in digital content. This includes tagging, structuring, adding alt text, headings, forms, and reading order for PDFs and Office documents, as well as captioning, transcripts, and audio descriptions for videos and multimedia content.
  • Guide Developers: Advise developers on accessible coding practices, including ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Prepare Accessibility Reports: Prepare VPATs/ACRs and client-facing accessibility conformance documentation.
  • Advise Clients: Advise clients on ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2, and emerging US/state accessibility laws.
  • Ongoing Compliance: Support quarterly monitoring and ongoing compliance programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Accessibility Knowledge: Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2, ADA Title II/III, Section 504/508.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Axe, WAVE, SiteImprove, Adobe Acrobat Pro. Proficiency in HTML5, ARIA, CSS3, JavaScript (React/Angular a plus).
  • Documentation: Strong documentation/reporting skills (audit findings, VPAT/ACR).
  • Contract Experience: Experience supporting federal, state, or higher education contracts preferred.

Preferred Certifications:

  • IAAP CPWA: Certified Professional in Web Accessibility.
  • IAAP WAS: Web Accessibility Specialist.
  • IAAP ADS: Accessible Document Specialist.
  • DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester: DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester.
  • IAAP CPACC: Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies.
