Job Title: Climate Adaptation Expert

Description:

  • We are seeking a skilled professional to lead our climate adaptation efforts, ensuring the integration of adaptation priorities into national climate frameworks and alignment with international agreements and national development goals.
  • This position will involve conducting climate vulnerability and risk assessments across various sectors, including agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • The ideal candidate will apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses, identifying and sizing adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluation of techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and mapping relevant financing sources is also essential.
  • The successful candidate will support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups in inclusive stakeholder consultations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields, particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
  • Proficiency in conducting climate vulnerability and risk assessments and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections, as well as strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environment Facility (GEF), and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
