Music Educator Wanted

About Our Special Education Initiative

Our special school provides education and vocational training for children and adults with diverse abilities.

We are seeking a skilled Music Educator to support our learners in developing their musical talents.

Role Overview

As a Music Educator, you will design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Develop engaging music lessons tailored to the needs of our learners.
  • Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaboration and Assessment: Work closely with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities; assess learner progress using tailored benchmarks.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with our positive behaviour support policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music or Certificate course in Music Therapy
  • 3 to 7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream school/Special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
  • Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
  • Experience with communication aids
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
