Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with exceptional technical expertise to spearhead complex R&D initiatives and drive next-generation product development.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, and experience in leading cross-functional teams. A deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and tolerance analysis is crucial for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop innovative mechanical components and assemblies for high-performance applications, ensuring alignment with manufacturing requirements and industry standards.
• Create precise 3D models and detailed technical drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools, emphasizing design accuracy and manufacturability.
• Lead prototyping efforts using various methods, including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, and plastic molding, to ensure rapid iteration and testing.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to meet mechanical, thermal, and environmental requirements, while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency.
• Perform tolerance analysis, stress analysis, and thermal analysis to guarantee mechanical robustness and compliance with design specifications.
• Collaborate closely with electronics and software engineering teams to integrate mechanical components seamlessly into multi-disciplinary systems.
• Oversee testing and validation of mechanical components and systems, including fit, form, and function assessments.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation for manufacturing, assembly, and quality assurance processes, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

Required Skills & Qualifications:Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting using tools such as SolidWorks (CSWP certification preferred), Creo, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Strong expertise in mechanical enclosure design, especially for IP65/IP68-rated products and rugged environments.
• Hands-on experience with prototyping techniques, including 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and injection molding.
• In-depth understanding of material selection, tolerance stack-up analysis, and mechanical design calculations (stress, thermal, vibration).
• Familiarity with GD&T, technical drawing standards, and compliance with industry norms (ASME, ISO).
• Experience in preparing BOMs, assembly drawings, and detailed documentation for production and quality assurance.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication across engineering functions.

Educational & Other Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
• Additional certifications in mechanical design, CAD tools (e.g., CSWP – Certified SolidWorks Professional), or project management (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a strong plus.
• Prior experience in defence, industrial, or ruggedized product development is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 10–12 years of relevant industry experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or leadership role in mechanical design.
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering complex, high-quality mechanical systems from concept to production.
