Teaching Music with Passion

Lady Andal House of Children, a special school in Chennai, seeks a skilled Music Teacher to support diverse learners and foster inclusive education. The ideal candidate must have expertise in designing and implementing music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities.

The successful candidate will have training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices, experience with communication aids, and strong interpersonal skills. A person with patience, creativity, and a positive attitude is required to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement music lessons for students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Use assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with the school's positive behaviour support policies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy preferred.
  • 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/special school.
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education preferred.
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory.
