Shillong, Meghalaya, India TheNudge Institute Full time
About The/Nudge Institute

We are an action institute dedicated to building resilient livelihoods and alleviating poverty. Our work focuses on rural development, agriculture, skilling, and economic inclusion, in partnership with 15+ central and state government partners.

Our economic inclusion journey has reached 10 states, impacting 1.25M people, with $250M of government funding. We have supported 200+ social entrepreneurs, including 17 Forbes 30U30 winners, 3 EarthShot Prize winners, and 1 Time Magazine cover story subject.

Established with support from 90+ prominent philanthropists, 40+ corporations, and 15+ foundations, we aim to contribute to a 'poverty-free India' within our lifetime.

Solving Poverty Together

We address poverty by targeting financially and socially vulnerable households through a multi-faceted model called the graduation approach. This approach has demonstrated durability in pulling households out of poverty.

At The/Nudge Institute, we have piloted this program for three years and are now catalyzing its propagation. Our purpose is to empower the most excluded individuals to become contributing members of society:

  • Enable governments to adopt our research, design, and implementation support.
  • Continue implementing the program independently to refine it for impact at scale.
  • Support NGOs in adopting technical and capacity-building support.
  • Generate data on poverty and evidence on the graduation approach to encourage governments to adopt at-scale.
  • Develop technology solutions for NGOs and governments to implement at scale with quality.
Meghalaya Economic Inclusion Program

The/Nudge Institute is collaborating with the Meghalaya Government Innovation Lab and Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS) to increase adoption of the graduation approach/economic inclusion program. This initiative targets 50,000 ultra-poor/mainly single distress mothers through community institutions.

A State Project Management Unit (SPMU) will be established at MSRLS, Shillong, to help the Government of Meghalaya design and implement a special program called- 'Meghalaya Economic Inclusion Program' (M-EIP). This position is for the SPMU at Shillong, MSRLS, reporting directly to the Head of Operations.

  • Supporting MSRLS in developing a strategy and program design to target the ultra-poor through the 'Graduation Approach'/ 'Economic Inclusion Program' built on top of community institutions enabled by MSRLS/DAY-NRLM.
  • Supporting MSRLS in planning activities, orienting teams, and implementing projects with proper monitoring.
  • Enabling convergence of various state initiatives towards the end goal of graduating women and their households living in ultra-poverty out of it.
  • Owning the implementation and outcomes of the special project.
  • Supporting MSRLS and DAY-NRLM in reviewing progress periodically to iterate and scale.
  • Building relationships with key government stakeholders in MSRLS for successful project execution.
