Senior Structural Engineer Position

This is a senior position in an engineering team focused on production and liaison with the WSP team.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead the design process, encourage the team to deliver appropriate solutions, and ensure project costing information is completed in detail and to deadlines.

  • The ideal candidate must have proven experience in building structure design, preferably in a similar role or with a good track record.
  • A sound understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project, is necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare feasibility study reports to meet brief requirements in an agreed format and review them with the Local CRC Head of Structures.
  • Work with the WSP team to assemble a design specification compliant with employer requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
  • Agree and monitor scope of works with the Local CRC Head of Structures.
  • Clearly define building requirements and purpose of use with the Local CRC Head of Structures and the WSP team to allow detailed design.
  • Carry out detailed design according to client requirements, standard codes, QA, and technical review, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
  • Review and monitor the production of calculations, including QA and technical reviews.
  • Ensure project costing information is completed in detail and to deadlines, and keep the WSP team informed about design progress.
  • Coordinate project contracts documents and reviews input from team members.
  • Lead the design process and encourage the team to deliver appropriate and cost-effective solutions.
  • Follow document control and QA processes, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence are issued and filed appropriately.
Required Competencies/Skills:
  • Mastery of technical structural software such as RAM, CSC, ETABS, SAFE, and STAAD is essential.
  • The applicant must be fluent in English and have excellent knowledge of technical terminology.
  • Good management, communication, and technical skills are required, with the ability to work both within the team and independently.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required, along with membership to an accredited engineering body.
  • British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent is desirable.
