Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Backup Specialist to join our team.

  • Monitor and optimize the performance of all SAN components, including storage systems, fiber switches, and backup equipment.
  • Install and configure backup servers, tape libraries, and clients on heterogeneous operating systems.
  • Execute backup and restore operations according to data-center policies, including scheduled drills and on-demand operations.
  • Analyze OS and backup logs, alert logs, warning logs, and other trace files to diagnose problems.
  • Maintain indices and logs in accordance with retention policies.
  • Manage media properly, maintaining records of tape media, backup databases, and logs for recovery on server crashes.
  • Conduct daily health checks and troubleshoot failed backups.
  • Coordinate with onsite teams and vendors to resolve issues with jukeboxes and tape libraries.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have experience working as a backup administrator with software such as NetVault, Networker, Netbackup, or Veritas.
  • Basic knowledge of popular operating systems like Windows, Red Hat Linux, and others is required.
  • Proficiency in clustering technology (Linux and Windows) and database management (MS-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB-2) is necessary.
  • Understanding of networking protocols and local area networks is essential.
  • Knowledge of VTL, LAN/SAN clients, NDMP, and bar code labeling is also required.
