High-Performance Computing Administrator Role

The role of High-Performance Computing Administrator is a vital function in today's high-performance computing landscape. We are seeking an experienced professional to manage and maintain our HPC clusters, including Linux operating systems, user account management, and administration of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administration of HPC and VDI Clusters: Ensure the smooth operation of HPC and VDI clusters, including setup, configuration, and maintenance.
  • User Account Management: Manage user accounts for HPC onboarding and offboarding, ensuring secure and efficient access to resources.
  • Creation and Maintenance of AMI Images: Create and maintain Amazon Machine Images (AMI) in AWS accounts, streamlining deployment and reducing downtime.
  • Linux Operating System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems on HPC clusters, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Support for Native Services: Coordinate with providers to support HPC necessary components and native services.
  • AWS Managed Active Directory Support: Provide expert-level support for AWS Managed Active Directory, ensuring seamless integration with HPC environments.
  • Continuous Platform Upgrades: Continuously upgrade the HPC platform and related components, including OS, Java, Python, EFPortal, etc., to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Implement and maintain necessary compliance controls, conduct regular audits, and share findings to implement corrective actions as required.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with other teams, such as v-drive teams, to test and migrate engineering applications to the HPC platform.
  • Job Scheduler and Node Provisioning Tools: Manage job schedulers like Slurm or LSF and utilize node provisioning tools like Werewolf.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshoot system issues and provide technical support to users, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progressive experience in HPC system administration, preferably in a Redhat/CentOS Linux environment.
  • AWS Cloud formation templates to build infrastructure for HPC and storage Amazon FSx for Netapp and Lustre are also essential skills.
