About Us

Lady Andal House of Children is a renowned institution in Chennai, founded by The Madras Seva Sadan. Our special school provides education and vocational training for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

We offer pre-vocational and vocational training programmes, including the NIOS curriculum. Our team of rehabilitation professionals provide physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy to support our students' unique needs.

Our goal is to create a dynamic team of special educators and educators who can work with learners with multiple disabilities and guide participants in the NIOS programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students' speech, language, and communication abilities using standardised tests and informal evaluations.
  • Develop and implement Individualised Therapy Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs and goals.
  • Provide one-on-one and group speech therapy sessions to improve articulation, fluency, language comprehension, and expressive communication.
  • Work closely with special education teachers, occupational therapists, psychologists and parents to support integrated student development.
  • Monitor and document students' progress and adapt therapy plans as needed.
  • Educate and train staff and caregivers on communication strategies and support techniques.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain detailed records and comply with all regulatory standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
  • Valid certification or license to practice as a Speech Therapist.
  • 3 to 7 years working with children and adults with multiple disabilities.
  • Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and specialised instructional strategies.
  • Patience, empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and assistive aids.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good organisational and documentation skills.
