Firewall System Architect

About Us: Maple Cloud Technologies is a leading provider of innovative cybersecurity solutions.

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Firewall System Architect to join our team. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting-edge firewall systems that protect our clients' networks from cyber threats.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Design, develop, and implement new features and capabilities for firewall systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of security and performance.
  • Protocol Knowledge: Collaborate with our network engineering team to ensure our firewall systems can handle various networking protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, and others.
  • Security Standards: Implement security best practices to ensure firewall integrity, including secure code development and vulnerability assessments.
  • Optimization: Ensure our firewall software is highly optimized for performance in terms of throughput and latency.
  • Threat Detection: Develop methods for detecting, blocking, and reporting potential threats such as malware, DDoS attacks, and intrusions.
  • Integration: Collaborate with other security solutions, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct comprehensive testing, including unit tests, integration tests, and performance testing to ensure our firewall works under various scenarios.
  • Maintenance: Monitor and maintain our firewall software, applying patches and updates to address vulnerabilities and improve functionality.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all development processes, system architectures, and troubleshooting steps.

Requirements:

  • Programming Languages: Proficient in languages like C, C++, Python, Go, Java, or other languages commonly used in network and systems development.
  • Networking Expertise: In-depth knowledge of networking concepts (OSI model, TCP/IP stack, routing, and switching).
  • Firewall Architecture: Hands-on experience in designing and building firewalls, understanding of stateful vs. stateless firewalls, packet filtering, and application-level filtering.
  • Security Knowledge: Experience in architecting, deploying, and managing advanced security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, endpoint security, SD-WAN, and NAC.
  • Operating Systems: Proficient in working with Linux/Unix-based systems, including kernel-level programming, and experience with Windows server environments.
  • Firewalls and IDS/IPS Systems: Experience with popular firewall solutions (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Networks) and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Performance Tuning: Experience in optimizing network traffic processing for performance under high loads.
  • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Strong skills in network and system troubleshooting.
  • Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams, including product managers, other engineers, and security specialists.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate security threats.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Software Development Practices: Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Advanced Security Tools: Experience with threat intelligence platforms, SIEM systems, and automated security response solutions.

Compensation: $120,000 - $180,000 per year.
