Job Title: Assistant Manager

In this dynamic role, you will oversee a wide range of tasks that involve handling claims and legal matters.

  • Responsibilities include monitoring and addressing all claims related to recovery actions such as outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours of receiving the claim/notification.
  • Gather relevant documents and report all claims to headquarters within 24 hours.
  • Advise on the merits of the claim and future steps to be taken.
  • Monitor and assist colleagues in handling claims and court cases until closure.
  • Handle P&I related matters including cargo claims, GA & stowage etc.
  • Promptly reserve against third parties.
  • Implement Debt Recovery procedures in accordance with NCLT tribunal.
  • Draft and review Service Agreements and various MOU, Letters of Intent, agreements etc.
  • Provide guidance to regional offices on handling issues that may translate to a legal matter.
  • Offer legal advice and assist other departments on shipping-related issues.
  • Apply Bank Guarantee procedures implemented by the Head Office Documentation Department.

Qualifications and Skill Sets:

  • Must have a graduate degree.
  • 5+ years experience in the shipping industry preferably with Cargo/Marine claims experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and reporting skills.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Manage and address court cases, appeals, writ petitions, and action initiated by authorities.
  • Appoint and liaise with surveyors and outside counsels.
  • Make recommendations for improving claims handling process and procedures.
