Senior Database Administrator Job Description

About this role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator to own the performance, availability and security of our databases across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, monitor, and tune production and staging databases
  • Manage high availability, backups, restores, replication, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Ensure uptime and performance Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met in cloud and hybrid environments
  • Administer relational database management systems (RDBMS), Aurora, and EC2-hosted database instances
  • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and third-party tools
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimize indexes, and review queries
  • Implement and enforce best practices in database normalization, partitioning, and data lifecycle management
  • Ensure data encryption, access controls, and audit logging are in place and compliant with policies
  • Support regulatory initiatives with appropriate database controls and evidence collection
  • Provide database guidance to developers and DevOps teams during code reviews and deployments
  • Share knowledge, mentor junior DBAs, and improve documentation and internal tooling
