Senior Backend Engineer Job Description

Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will design, build, and maintain scalable server-side applications and APIs.

The ideal candidate will have strong coding expertise, system design skills, and experience in building high-performance backend systems. You will be responsible for designing scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services & APIs, implementing server-side logic, databases & data storage solutions, optimizing database schemas, queries & indexes for efficiency, diagnosing & resolving performance bottlenecks; implementing caching & load balancing, ensuring backend security against common threats, collaborating with frontend, DevOps, and product teams, mentoring junior developers & ensuring coding best practices, developing & running unit, integration & performance tests, monitoring systems, troubleshooting issues & maintaining uptime reliability.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or Rust
  • Strong experience with SQL & NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis)
  • Expertise in RESTful & GraphQL API design
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture & containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) & CI/CD pipelines
  • Solid understanding of Git, version control & branching strategies
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with distributed systems & event-driven architectures
  • Familiarity with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Memcached
  • Knowledge of IaC tools like Terraform / Ansible
  • Exposure to frameworks such as Django, Flask, Spring Boot, Go Micro
