Role Overview

As a Senior Electrical Transmission Specialist, you will work within our Design & Engineering teams creating some of the world's most iconic and groundbreaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us. From making journeys easier to opening up public places that bring people together, your work will have a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical leadership for substation main plant designs within the multi-discipline engineering team in the Electrical Transmission and Distribution market with key clients being Transmission Owners, Distribution Network Operators, Onshore and Offshore Windfarms, and large industrial clients.
  2. Act as a senior technical authority on Main Plant engineering within the wider company.
  3. Operate partly outside the project environment to support professional leadership in their discipline at a management level, establishing and consolidating relationships with clients, managing the team, managing the technical delivery of projects or specialized components of projects, supporting the development of Arcadis capability in the discipline, and building and maintaining a professional reputation as an individual and for Arcadis.
  4. Undertake a Project Management Role in line with Arcadis Project Management Academy competence requirements as required.
  5. Take a leadership role with the project team, providing direction and leading by example where appropriate.
  6. Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary, and health and safety targets.
  7. Manage all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
  8. Work to ensure maximum client satisfaction, championing client care, and proactively working with the client.
  9. Promote both the regional and global culture of the business.
  10. Be a lead technical role on Main Plant design project deliverables, ranging from 11kV up to kV (with a particular emphasis on kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Lead Engineer on project teams as required and when appropriate.
  11. Produce detailed substation Main Plant design packages compliant to required client and national technical standards.
  12. Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
  13. Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
  14. Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
  15. Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.
  16. Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval/sign-off as required on Main Plant related designs and deliverables.
  17. Work closely with other sections within the T&D Engineering Team to enable effective collaboration on multi-disciplinary projects and facilitate an optimal engineering function in the UK business.
Requirements
  1. Minimum of 20 years of Main Plant system design experience in the electricity transmission & distribution sector, with at least 7 of those years being on UK transmission system-related projects.
  2. Knowledge of engineering design management best practices with ability to implement this knowledge.
  3. Understanding of the requirements of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation relating to design and construction work in the electricity supply industry.
  4. Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
  5. Experience of working in a lead substation design role on SPEN and SSEN projects in the UK.
  6. Good working knowledge of SPEN and SSEN policies and procedures.
  7. Thorough knowledge and experience applying SPEN, SSEN, National Grids Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks relating to substation design in the UK.
  8. IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.
  9. Knowledge of applying CAD technology/software to substation design.
  10. Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  11. Strong persuasion and negotiation skills with clients and employees.
  12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  13. Able to deal effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders across clients, industry, government, and public.
  14. Able to manage tasks on multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
  15. Able to work autonomously and/or as part of a project team.
  16. Pro-active in building knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
  17. Capability to coach, develop & record CPD and encourage others in the team to do so.
  18. Engaged in the engineering community and how we can drive success for our clients.
  19. Able to develop innovative and practical solutions to a range of problems, and an understanding of how one issue may be part of a much larger solution.
  20. Able to make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and valuing the contribution of all team members.

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is £85,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
