Localization Project Manager

The Localization Project Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting global expansion initiatives by overseeing localization projects, leveraging translation management system (TMS) tools, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and localization vendors.

The primary objectives of the Localization Project Manager include:

  • Project Management: Manage localization requests and projects across product UI, documentation, and support content.
  • Define scope, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with internal stakeholders and business priorities.
  • Track and report project progress, risks, and blockers to stakeholders.

Key responsibilities also include:

TMS Tools:
  • Oversee translation workflows in Smartling and XTM, including project setup, automation, and quality checks.
  • Troubleshoot TMS tool issues and work with engineering or vendor support as needed.
  • Maintain and apply translation memories, glossaries, and style guides to ensure linguistic consistency.
Vendor Management:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for localization vendors, managing schedules, and queries.
  • Coordinate vendor assignments, monitor KPIs, and enforce SLA compliance.
  • Consolidate and communicate vendor feedback to improve output quality.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Documentation, Marketing, and Support teams to gather requirements and prepare content for localization.
  • Ensure source content readiness and localization best practices are embedded early in workflows.
  • Provide guidance on localization feasibility and cultural appropriateness for target markets.

Qualifications include 7+ years of experience in localization project management or a related role, hands-on experience with Smartling and XTM, and strong understanding of TMS, translation workflows, translation memories, and terminology management.
