Job Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to oversee the design of mechanical systems at Railway Stations. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading individual projects or working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of Mechanical systems at Railway Stations through all design stages from concept to detailed design.
  • Design of HVAC Systems, Stair Pressurization calculations, heat load calculations, review & checking of HVAC designs.
  • Prepare user requirements, technical specifications, design specifications and commissioning plans.
  • Provide technical guidance in planning and executing assigned projects.
  • Supervise and verify the work performed by designers/modellers to meet project requirements.
  • Liaise with lead offices to estimate budgets and time associated with projects within area of expertise.
  • Ensure compatibility of the Mechanical discipline with other disciplines involved in projects.
  • Create a healthy and motivating work environment and atmosphere.
  • Develop an evaluation program to motivate employees.
  • Responsible for overseeing all activities within a team.
  • Manage employee development, employee appraisal, and staff development.
  • Identify team goals, evaluate team progress, and resolve conflicts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors/masters degree in mechanical/thermal engineering.
  • 12-18 years experience in MEP Mechanical design.
  • Qualifications meeting the requirements for Chartership with a UK Engineering Institution.
  • Proven experience in HVAC design of Railway Station Building Services with significant experience in a similar role or good track record.
  • Carry out heat load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and pressure drop calculations.
  • Carry out HVAC equipment selection, such as chillers, AHU, FCU, boiler, fans, pumps etc.
  • Carry out preparation of technical submittals.
  • Must have knowledge on software like AutoCAD, MEP Revit, MicroStation & other drafting software.
  • A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project is essential.
  • Experience of associated discipline software (HAP, Hevacomp, IES etc.).
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent understanding of technical terminology.
  • Good management and technical skills required.

  • Extensive experience of working within a rail station environment and good working knowledge of Network Rail, TfL & LUL standards.
