Senior AWS Engineer Job Description

Job Summary:

The Senior AWS Engineer will lead the architecture and implementation of cloud-native applications using AWS, emphasizing serverless and event-driven design patterns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable and resilient applications utilizing core AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, Step Functions, SQS, AppSync, Amazon Pinpoint, and Cognito.
  • Develop robust solutions using AWS CDK for infrastructure as code (IaC) practices and promote automated deployments with AWS CodePipeline.
  • Advocate and implement serverless design and event-driven paradigms to build decoupled and efficient systems.
  • Implement observability using CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, and custom metrics to ensure application performance and rapid issue resolution.
  • Apply stringent security practices including IAM role boundaries, PHI/PII tagging, Cognito configuration, KMS encryption, isolation patterns, and HIPAA compliance enforcement.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities such as S3 lifecycle policies, usage of serverless pricing tiers, and intelligent service selections.
  • Engineer fault-tolerant systems leveraging auto-scaling, DLQs, retry/backoff mechanisms, and circuit breakers.
  • Contribute to the evolution of CI/CD pipelines ensuring streamlined, automated deployments across environments.
  • Partner with developers, QA engineers, DevOps, and product teams to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Champion the use of AWS best practices in all development, deployment, and operational processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an AWS Cloud Engineer, Cloud Solutions Architect, or related role.
  • Deep expertise with AWS serverless stack, including Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, AppSync, Amazon Pinpoint, CloudWatch Logs, X-Ray, Cognito, KMS.
  • Hands-on proficiency in AWS CDK and IaC practices.
  • Experience implementing and scaling event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of security and compliance, including IAM boundaries, PHI/PII tagging, Cognito user pools & identity pools, encryption, HIPAA compliance.
  • Proven track record in cloud cost optimization and performance tuning.
  • Familiar with CI/CD tools and best practices.
  • Strong capability in designing resilient systems, including auto-scaling, DLQs, retry logic & circuit breakers.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated adherence to AWS Well-Architected Framework and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS certifications.
  • Experience in healthcare, regulated industries, or high-compliance environments.
  • Exposure to frontend/backend systems integrating via AppSync/GraphQL.
  • Background in CI/CD pipeline automation and DevOps workflows.
