Job Summary

The Steel Furniture Designer is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and prototyping innovative metal furniture pieces. Collaborating closely with product development, engineering and production teams ensures both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop unique steel furniture products including tables, chairs, shelves and storage units.
  • Prepare 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are feasible for production.
  • Perform structural analysis of steel furniture to ensure durability and stability.
  • Select materials and finishes based on aesthetic, functional and cost considerations.
  • Conduct research on trends in furniture design and material innovation.
  • Develop prototypes for testing and modify designs based on feedback.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for sourcing materials and components.
  • Ensure designs meet safety standards and company specifications.
  • Assist in developing cost estimates for production and assembly.
  • Work with the marketing team to understand customer needs and incorporate feedback into designs.
  • Prepare technical documentation and design presentations for stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Design Engineer in the steel furniture industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of material properties particularly steel and other metals.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for steel furniture welding, cutting, bending etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A strong portfolio of previous design work is beneficial.
