Principal Database Specialist

As a key member of our database team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance and scalability of our databases. You will work closely with application teams to integrate seamless solutions with database systems.
Key Responsibilities- Database Reliability: Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backup and recovery to minimize downtime and data loss.
- Database Performance: Analyze solutions and implement best practices for supported datastores (Primarily MySQL and PostgreSQL) to ensure optimal query performance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with application teams to ship solutions that integrate seamlessly with our database systems, ensuring smooth operations.
- Observability: Work on the observability of relevant database metrics and make sure we reach our database objectives.
- Expertise: Provide database expertise to engineering teams through reviews of database migrations, queries and performance optimizations.
To succeed in this role, you should have experience running large-scale databases, awareness of cloud infrastructure and knowledge of database internals.
Requirements- Experience: At least 4-8 years of experience running MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in large environments.
- Awareness: Awareness of cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
- Database Knowledge: Have knowledge of the internals of MySQL/ PostgreSQL.
Nice-to-haves include knowledge of caching, scripting languages and infrastructure automation.
