About the Role
We are seeking a skilled solar designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in creating 2D and 3D rooftop solar designs with strong SketchUp expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop accurate 2D and 3D rooftop solar designs in SketchUp, incorporating technical knowledge and design-oriented mindset.
- Create detailed SketchUp models of solar panels, mounting structures, rooftop elements, obstacles, etc., with precise dimensions.
- Use the mounting structure library to design panel layouts that meet technical and structural requirements.
- Identify and incorporate rooftop obstacles into the design, such as water tanks, HVAC systems, vents, etc.
- Make design decisions regarding gaps for cleaning and maintenance access, overhangs for maximum generation while ensuring safety and feasibility.
- Create multiple views and scenes in SketchUp to effectively communicate design intent.
- Optimize panel placement for maximum utilization of rooftop space while maintaining shading and clearance guidelines.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in SketchUp solar design, preferably on rooftop PV projects.
- Strong understanding of rooftop solar project requirements, shading considerations, and structural layouts.
- Ability to interpret technical inputs, such as site surveys, roof dimensions, and structural drawings, into workable models.
- Familiarity with solar mounting structures and ability to apply them within designs.
- Attention to detail for accurate modeling and measurements.
- Good visualization skills to create professional design presentations.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on minor design decisions.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Sketchup and Skalion.
- Knowledge of solar engineering basics, including tilt, azimuth, orientation, shading, and generation estimates.
