  • This role oversees the development of a framework for identifying and assessing legal risks across various business activities in the region, collaborating with regional risk, audit, and compliance teams.
  • Rectify audit observations/queries according to existing laws/guidelines.
  • Assist business teams in adhering to state laws while rolling out products, and support the product & marketing team.
">Key Responsibilities:">
  • ">
  • Manage all legal issues in the region, mitigating and eliminating risks while ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal advice on contracts and agreements related to business operations, protecting the bank from legal exposure and minimizing liability.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in state laws/Regulations, particularly regarding state stamp acts, and assess their impact on the bank, advising the business team accordingly.
  • Respond to business unit queries/matters pertaining to state Acts, including shops and establishment act, municipal act, stamp act, minimum wages act, and other banking-related laws in day-to-day transactions.
  • Resolve legal issues related to MSE and housing verticals at the region, managing legal matters concerning mortgage creation/registration, drafting/vetting/review of credit documentation, and transaction documents.
  • Represent the bank in courts/Tribunals and forums to ensure speedy case disposal, preparing/plaint statements and replies/objections on behalf of the bank.
  • Support the vigilance department in lodging FIRs/complaints and providing legal assistance in fraud-related matters and staff assault instances.
  • Manage databases/MIS of ongoing proceedings, follow up with concerned business/regional heads, provide course corrections, and escalate when necessary.
  • Conduct Legal Audits of Advance accounts as per Board/RBI guidelines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in law (3 years or 5 years) from a recognized university.
  • 6-15 years of post-qualification experience, having experience conducting cases before courts of law.
  • In-depth understanding of retail and wholesale banking, loan/credit documentation, and corporate/commercial laws.
