Job Summary

The Senior Vice President of Engineering will lead our technical initiatives, overseeing the development and deployment of cutting-edge solutions that meet our clients' needs. This individual will be responsible for strategic planning, evaluating technology platforms, and managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive technical strategy aligned with our company's objectives, prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for evaluating, developing, and deploying products and solutions.
  • Evaluate and identify suitable technology platforms, including web application frameworks and deployment stacks, to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
  • Collaborate with senior management to ensure governance processes align with company objectives, managing risks and resources responsibly.
  • Recommend technologies that support organizational needs, collaborating with departments to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Establish governance processes that meet privacy standards for customer information, ensuring data security and compliance.
  • Direct the development and execution of an enterprise-wide information security plan, protecting our clients' sensitive data.
  • Communicate our technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, and stakeholders, effectively articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Implementation & Deployment

  • Select and set up software revision control systems, internal communications systems, and bug-tracking tools, ensuring seamless collaboration and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with founders and customers to develop use cases, specifications, and mockups for company services, driving client satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Refine our software development methodology and oversee specification conformance and testing, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Establish coding conventions, documentation standards, and manage staff or vendors to implement the application, maintaining consistency and efficiency.
  • Supervise the software development process, conduct code reviews, and manage the release process, ensuring timely and successful deployments.
  • Establish and oversee quality assurance processes, including integration and system testing, guaranteeing error-free solutions.
  • Evaluate and select web application hosting providers, deploy applications, and monitor performance, ensuring optimal scalability and reliability.
  • Create a process to integrate customer service and support with engineering for issue resolution and application usability, delivering exceptional client experiences.

Operational Management

  • Maintain knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, and best practices by attending conferences and reading extensively, staying ahead of the curve.
  • Define and communicate company values and standards for systems, equipment, and software, ensuring consistency and alignment across the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to technology standards across the organization, promoting efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Mentor and educate investors, management, staff, and partners on our technological vision, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Supervise recruitment, training, and retention of development staff, in line with company policies and budget, building a strong and talented team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (MBA or relevant graduate degree is a plus).
  • 18+ years of experience in managing enterprise application development, demonstrating expertise and leadership.
  • Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders and vendor management, showcasing ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Proven experience with coding in popular web application frameworks and server administration, leveraging technical skills to drive business results.
  • Hands-on experience with web systems architecture, Java/J2EE, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript frameworks, AJAX, and knowledge of web standards, ensuring deep technical understanding.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with experience in delegation and complex project management, ensuring efficient delivery.
  • Ability to manage a team of 100 employees, demonstrating leadership and people management skills.
