Backend Engineer: A System Architect Role

A system architect role at our company is a rare opportunity to work on building scalable and efficient backend components, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines. This project-based work allows you to design, build, and maintain the backbone of our technology stack.

We are seeking an experienced systems thinker who can understand complex data flows, bottlenecks, and infrastructure patterns. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining backend components, APIs, and integrations, as well as architecting data flows across multiple systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Designing and building scalable backend components and APIs.
  • Architecting data flows across multiple systems.
  • Implementing secure authentication and authorisation.
  • Supporting search/vector search/ranking and external API integrations.
  • Setting up monitoring and observability.

You will also be working on containerising solutions for scalability and compute flexibility, writing adapters, contract tests, and managing schema diffs for evolving systems. Additionally, you will collaborate across teams and help design and implement the RightScore algorithm.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in backend engineering and system architecture.
  • A strong grasp of data flows, infrastructure, and integration patterns.
  • Proficiency with REST APIs, backend/frontend integration, and secrets hygiene.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, caching, object storage, and streaming systems.
  • Familiarity with hybrid/vector search and ranking approaches.
