GIS Developer Job Summary

As a skilled GIS developer, you will be responsible for leading the development of GIS solutions using various technologies. You will work closely with front-end developers, product managers, and other engineers to ensure that GIS features meet business requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience with GIS technologies such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, and MapServer, as well as spatial data formats like GeoJSON, KML, and shapefiles. They will also have expertise in spatial databases like PostGIS and MongoDB, and knowledge of RESTful API design and development.

The role requires strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on optimizing geospatial data handling and processing. The successful candidate will be able to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain GIS applications using various programming languages and technologies.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS solutions with other systems and applications.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs to expose geospatial data and GIS services.
  • Optimize databases for handling geospatial data and develop efficient query plans.
  • Collaborate with junior engineers and interns to provide technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Participate in agile methodologies and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, geospatial sciences, geography, engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2-3 years focused on GIS applications.
  • Strong experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Expertise in GIS technologies and spatial data formats.
  • Experience with spatial databases and RESTful API design and development.
  • Advanced knowledge of database systems and data modeling.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.
