Tax Specialist Role

The role of a Tax Specialist is crucial in ensuring the compliance and efficiency of tax services for real estate clients. This position involves detailed analysis and review of complex tax returns, including Form 1065, Form 1120-REIT, and corporate blocker returns.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing second-level review and analysis of tax returns for real estate funds, holding entities, and property partnership returns
  • Detail reviewing and analyzing state and local tax returns, composite, and withholding filings for real estate industry clients
  • Managing client, internal, and statutory deadlines
  • Serving as a guide by providing mentorship or coaching to employees on performance feedback and staff development
  • Training and developing staff members
  • Working on multiple complex issues while communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Serving as the Tax client service coordinator for assigned clients
  • Advising clients on corporate/partnership tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and mergers and acquisitions activities
  • Reviewing research findings and ensuring conclusions align with firm policies and professional standards
  • Assisting with new business development, extended services, and tax issue recognition for existing clients
Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in business taxation working for a large accounting firm in the real estate industry
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or EA certification
  • Prior tax compliance & consulting experience serving real estate clients
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Candidates with additional qualifications will be given preference:

  • Strong technical skills in accounting and tax preparation
  • Industry specialization in real estate
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience preparing or reviewing accounting for income taxes under ASC 740
  • International tax experience
