About the Role

Users will see tailored swimlanes of content, recommendations, and engagement features. The Backend Engineer will help design and implement the APIs, data flows, and integrations on AWS that power this platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop backend services on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway) for search, feedback, tasks, and analytics.
  • Implement search and retrieval features in OpenSearch (keyword + vector search, ranking).
  • Create data pipelines to enrich content with tags, lay terms, and related data.
  • Capture user interaction signals (clicks, ratings, dwell time) and process them for re-ranking and analytics.
  • Develop and document APIs for use by web, iOS, and Android clients.
  • Evaluate performance targets (e.g., retrieval time) and compliance standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience building backend services with AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis).
  • Hands-on knowledge of OpenSearch/Elasticsearch (indexing, search queries).
  • Design and scaling expertise in APIs (REST/GraphQL, OpenAPI).
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and basic data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python or Node.js preferred).
  • Understanding of secure coding practices; exposure to compliance-sensitive environments (HIPAA/PII is a plus).
