  • Design, develop, code, test, and debug mainframe applications using languages such as COBOL and PL/I.","
  • Maintain, enhance, and support existing mainframe applications, ensuring their stability and performance.","
  • Analyze and understand complex business logic within existing mainframe systems.","
  • Develop and maintain batch processing jobs using JCL (Job Control Language).","
  • Work with online transaction processing systems such as CICS (Customer Information Control System).","
  • Design and implement database changes using DB2 or VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method).","
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.","
  • Understand database structures and relationships within the mainframe environment.","
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.","
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including program specifications, data flow diagrams, and system documentation.","
  • Perform unit testing, system testing, and integration testing of mainframe applications.","
  • Identify and resolve software defects and performance issues.","
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.","
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to mainframe applications.","
  • Provide on-call support as needed to ensure system availability.","
  • Analyze system dumps and logs to diagnose problems.","
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, system administrators, and other developers.","
  • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.","
  • Keep abreast of advancements in mainframe technologies, tools, and methodologies.","
  • Participate in training and development activities to enhance your skills.","
  • Follow established coding standards, security guidelines, and best practices for mainframe development.","
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of development processes.","

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in COBOL and JCL.","
  • Familiarity with PL/I is a plus.","
  • Experience with CICS for online transaction processing.","
  • Solid understanding of DB2 and/or VSAM.","
  • Ability to write and optimize SQL.","
  • Familiarity with the z/OS operating system and related utilities (e.g., TSO/ISPF, SDSF).","
  • Proven ability to debug and troubleshoot mainframe applications using relevant tools (e.g., Abend-AID, IBM Debug Tool).","
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.","
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.","
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.","
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).","
  • Experience with mainframe modernization techniques and tools.","
  • Knowledge of other mainframe-related technologies (e.g., IMS, MQ Series).","
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts and tools in a mainframe environment.","
  • Experience with scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, Tivoli Workload Scheduler).","
  • Understanding of security concepts relevant to mainframe systems (e.g., RACF).","
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.","
