Key responsibilities of the electrical systems engineer include designing and developing electrical systems, power modules, and electronic circuits for rolling stock applications.
This role involves:
- Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBT, Si/SiC MOSFET's, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit design.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of engineers to handle local and global developmental work packages.
- Design, development, qualification and type testing of Electrical systems, Power modules including driver circuits, electronic circuits (Analog, Digital & Microcontroller), PCBA, Embedded & control software for rolling stock applications.
- Selection, design calculations, qualification and obsolescence management of power semiconductor devices, power electronics components and electronics / electrical components.
- Generating component specifications.
- Define testing strategy for device qualification, equipment routine & type testing as per relevant IEC/EN standards for rolling stock application.
- Work continuously on cost optimization measures to reach the target cost.
- Trouble shooting, field failure analysis. Defining and implementing measures from analysis for desired performance of equipment designed in field.
- Define timeline and plan budget for new development work packages.
- Ensure completion of development job in defined timeline and budget.
- Ensure risk mitigation and cost overrun mitigation during development phase.
The ideal candidate should have strong fundamental knowledge and experience in electrical system design, electronic circuit design (Analog, Digital & Microcontroller), PCBA design, Power electronics development, Embedded & control software design including simulation, prototyping, and testing.
Requirements
- Relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter design and strong understanding of power electronics topologies with line side converter, Motor inverter & Battery Chargers (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC)
- Knowledge and experience in high voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBT, Si/SiC MOSFET's, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit design.
- Knowledge and experience of power semiconductor devices qualification tests
- Experience in qualification of power devices, low inductive bus bar, power capacitors including testing, validation, and performance evaluation under various operating conditions to ensure compliance with rail standards
- Knowledge of type tests for electrical, electronic, power electronic circuits & assemblies and embedded & control software according to relevant IEC/EN standards for rolling stock application
- Experience in control electronics for traction applications & Knowledge of transducers, signal conditioning, and interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, RS232, RS422, MBV, WTB)
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, TI, NXP), and interface circuits
- Proficiency in PCB design and layout using tools like Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCAD, with emphasis on signal integrity and EMC compliance
- Experience in hardware validation and testing, including debugging, fault analysis, and compliance with industry standards
- Familiarity with power supply design (SMPS, LDOs), Driver cards for power switching devices and their protection circuits, and thermal management techniques
- Understanding of electronic component selection, derating, and lifecycle management for reliability in harsh environments
- EMI/EMC Testing as per international IEC/EN standards
- Knowledge about embedded and control electronic software and algorithms
- Skilled in working with measurement tools like Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Power analyzers etc.
Desired Skills
- Require 15 to 20 years of experience in design, development, qualification & type testing of electrical systems, power modules, electronics hardware, PCBA, microcontroller/embedded systems and control electronic software for rolling stock applications as per requirement specification.
- Knowledge of different cooling technologies like air/ liquid cooling, air flow calculation, CFD.
- Knowledge of problem-solving tools and techniques like A3, 8D etc.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation tools like DFMEA, PFMEA and LLDB.
- Knowledge of PLM process and various IEC, EN and IS standards applicable for Rail Industry.
- MATLAB, Mathcad, PLECS, LT-SPICE, Altium, SAP, Teamcenter, MS office
- Good communication skills
- Good in English language
- Good in soft skills and team building
