System Architect - Build the Future of Pet Care

Pet care is evolving, and we're at the forefront. Our innovative platform brings together pet health, vet services, grooming, boarding, e-commerce, and community in a seamless experience.

We're seeking a skilled System Architect to join our team and shape the future of pet care. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing and implementing scalable systems, architecting APIs, and thinking end-to-end about reliability and scale.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement robust, production-grade systems that drive our core flows (vet bookings, pet care services, orders, payments, telemetry ingestion).
  • Develop data models and database schemas optimized for performance and operational simplicity.
  • Implement secure authentication, authorization, and payment integrations, ensuring medical/health data is handled with care.
  • Operate data ingestion pipelines for wearable devices, ensuring durability and near-real-time processing.
  • Implement caching, queueing, and backpressure strategies to maintain system performance under load.
  • Ship observability features and create runbooks for common operational scenarios.
  • Collaborate closely with product, mobile, AI, and hardware teams to translate product requirements into reliable backend systems.
Requirements:
  • 2–4 years building production backend systems with Node.js (TypeScript) and frameworks like Express/Nest.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB: schema design, indexing, query optimisation.
  • Practical knowledge of caching (Redis) and message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS).
  • Cloud experience (GCP or AWS) — deploying services, setting up infra, and managing costs.
  • Familiarity with Docker and basic orchestration concepts (Kubernetes experience is a plus).
  • Practical understanding of security best practices: tokens, encryption in transit/at rest, OWASP risks.
  • Track record of owning features end-to-end and shipping in a fast, iterative environment.
  • Clear communicator who can work in an in-office, collaborative team.
Bonus Points:
  • Experience with telemetry/IoT ingestion pipelines and time-series data.
  • Experience building marketplace platforms, payment flows, or health-tech systems.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL, event sourcing, or CQRS patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Published projects, open-source contributions, or prior startup experience.
  • You love pets — and can tell us one thing you've done to make life better for yours.

  • You'll be more than a feature coder — you'll build critical, customer-facing systems that support multiple verticals (pet care, marketplace, boarding, wearables).
  • The backend you build will need to handle diverse workloads: transactional flows (bookings/payments), streaming telemetry (wearable collars), and analytics pipelines — interesting technical tradeoffs every week.
  • This is not a maintenance job. Expect to design, prototype, iterate quickly, and own the results. If you want to see your work used by real customers and have a direct line to product decisions, this role is for you.
