Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to lead our team of engineers in the design and development of consumer and industrial electronic products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and leadership ability to guide a small team of engineers.

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled mechanical engineer who can drive end-to-end product design and development from concept stage through to production release and market launch. This role requires strong technical expertise, hands-on problem-solving skills, and leadership ability to guide a small team of engineers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading complete mechanical design and development lifecycle: concept design → prototyping → design validation → tooling → product launch.
  • Translating customer/market requirements into innovative and manufacturable product designs.
  • Developing detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks with full GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
  • Performing design calculations, DFMEA, and tolerance analysis for robust product performance.
  • Designing products in plastics (injection moulding), sheet metal, die-casting, and machining.
  • Driving material selection based on performance, regulatory compliance, and cost.
  • Ensuring manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping to validate form, fit, and function.
  • Building and testing prototypes to identify design gaps early in the cycle.
  • Designing products with proper thermal management (passive cooling, heatsinks, venting, etc.).
  • Performing preliminary structural analysis, drop, and reliability considerations.
  • Defining and executing test protocols for functional verification.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Leading and mentoring a small team of 2–3 mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and design reviews.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing teams.
  • Working with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production ramp-up.
  • Reviewing vendor DFM feedback and ensuring alignment with quality and performance requirements.
  • Supporting project planning, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Preparing and maintaining engineering documentation: BoM, ECNs, ECOs, DHF/Design history, PLM updates.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have 8–10 years of mechanical product design & development (NPD) experience.
  • Education Mechanical Engineering , Industrial Engineering or STEM.
  • Strong background in consumer electronics, or similar domain experience is preferred.
  • Must-have: SolidWorks CAD expertise with simulation exposure (thermal/structural FEA preferred).
  • Proven ability to deliver end-to-end product designs from concept to market.
  • Experience in leading a small team (2–3 engineers).
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
