Road Safety Expert Job Description

The Road Safety Expert role is a critical position in enhancing urban mobility and reducing road fatalities in India. This expert will lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of road safety strategies across the state, working closely with government stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, consultants, and community groups.

**Job Summary:**
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to make a significant impact on road safety in India. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field, along with minimum 5 years of experience in mobility and/or road safety in India. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and proficiency in MS Office Suite and data analysis tools are essential.

**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Policy & Strategy**: Develop, implement, and review the State Road Safety Policy and Action Plan, aligning state initiatives with national road safety frameworks and SDGs.
2. **Infrastructure Planning & Design**: Evaluate design and safety aspects of new and existing road projects, recommend countermeasures for high-risk areas, and conduct road safety audits at various stages.
3. **Data Analysis & Research**: Analyze crash data, road user patterns, and maintain a road safety database, preparing periodic performance reports and targets for safety indicators.
4. **Capacity Building & Training**: Design and deliver capacity building workshops for engineers, enforcement officers, planners, drivers, and community groups, developing knowledge-sharing resources and toolkits on road safety best practices.
5. **Community Engagement**: Lead the design and execution of road safety awareness campaigns for the public, collaborating with local NGOs, schools, and community leaders for safe mobility initiatives.
6. **Enforcement & Monitoring**: Work with police and traffic enforcement teams to strengthen compliance with road safety laws, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of enforcement and engineering interventions.
7. **Interdepartmental Coordination**: Facilitate meetings among diverse government agencies for integrated safety improvements, representing the state at national road safety forums and stakeholder consultations.
8. **Technology & Innovation**: Advocate for the adoption of intelligent traffic management systems, GIS-based accident mapping, and emerging safety technologies, advising state authorities on procurement and deployment of digital enforcement and monitoring tools.

**Required Skills & Qualifications:**
* Master's degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field
* Minimum 5 years of experience in mobility and/or road safety in India
* Proven experience in developing and implementing successful urban mobility programs
* Strong understanding of Indian policies, laws and regulations
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and presentation skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Auto Cad, GIS, Photoshops, and data analysis tools
