Job Overview

We collaborate closely with leading silicon companies to optimize Ubuntu for their latest hardware.

As a software engineering leader, you will bring both technical and leadership skills to the management of your team. You will be responsible for guiding an engineering team that works across the full Linux stack from kernel to GUI to optimize Ubuntu, the world's most widely used Linux desktop and server, for the latest silicon.

You will also represent the team in direct partner engagement and ensure timely delivery on agreed project milestones.

As an engineering manager at our organization, your primary responsibility is to support the growth and development of your team members, ensuring they are engaged and contributing valuable work. A strong background in software development and technical leadership is essential to challenge and grow your team members. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of distributed engineers to design and implement the best Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks.
  • Engage with commercial partners to deliver a delightful, optimized, first-class Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, leading by example, and feedback.
  • Oversee commercial engagements and support timely delivery on agreed project milestones.
  • Ensure an ongoing commitment to strict quality and reliability standards.
  • Engage with other teams to ensure alignment on product architecture and roadmaps.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Experience working with Linux distributions, debian packaging, and high-performance, server-class hardware.
  • A proven track record of managing or leading a team of software engineers.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Understanding of agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple internal teams, building trust and delivering results.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent university level) in a technology field.
