Test Automation Engineer


Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned Test Automation Engineer with expertise in both manual and automation testing. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in building scalable automation frameworks, ensuring high-quality product delivery, and mentoring junior team members.

The role requires designing, developing, and maintaining robust automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver and BDD (Cucumber/Gherkin). The successful candidate must be able to perform both manual and automated testing to ensure product quality across web, API, and integration layers.

Responsibilities also include writing feature files with clear, business-oriented scenarios and maintaining reusable step definitions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for understanding requirements, defining acceptance criteria, and ensuring test coverage.

Maintaining Page Object Model (POM) for scalable and maintainable automation is another key responsibility. This involves implementing and extending core framework utilities such as wrappers, waits, retry mechanisms, and driver handling.

Additionally, the successful candidate should ensure clean code practices in test automation frameworks (SOLID principles, OOP concepts) and identify, document, and track defects, providing detailed root cause analysis.

Mentorship is also an integral part of this role, requiring the ability to mentor junior QA team members and contribute to overall process improvements.

Key Skills & Expertise:

  • Selenium WebDriver (Advanced): Deep knowledge of WebDriver APIs, custom waits, element handling, handling synchronization issues, stale elements, and workarounds.
  • BDD (Cucumber/Gherkin): Writing business-readable feature files, mapping steps correctly to ensure reusability and modularity.
  • Java (or framework language): Strong OOP concepts (inheritance, abstraction, polymorphism), clean code practices with SOLID principles, exception handling, and custom exception creation.
  • Step Definitions: Designing high-level steps without mixing UI locator logic, ensuring modularity and reusability.Page Object Model (POM): Strong understanding of POM & Page Factory, writing maintainable locators and encapsulating UI interactions, handling dynamic elements and reusable components.Core Framework (Wrappers, Waiters, Driver handling): Building wrapper methods around Selenium APIs, implementing custom waits, retry mechanisms, and driver utilities, extending WebDriver with custom elements where needed.
  • Hands-on experience with manual testing (functional, regression, smoke, UAT).
  • Experience in API testing using Postman/RestAssured.
  • Strong understanding of test planning, test design, and defect management.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integration with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in QA, with at least 2+ years in automation testing.
