Cost Estimator Position

The role of Cost Estimator is to ensure the precise and timely settlement of project costs, while protecting profit margins on material expenses.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Determine project cost settlements promptly (task completion) – sheet metal, machined, rubber, and plastic components.
  • Guarantee profit protection on material costs according to customer requirements.
Fundamental Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Project cost settlements with suppliers based on Zero base costing (ZBC) and Total cost of ownership (TCO) methodology.
  • Regular commodity monitoring for expense analysis.
  • Routine revision of raw material prices – monthly/quarterly/half-yearly.
  • Supplier visits to understand capabilities in cost drivers (labor skill matrix, electricity efficiency, process control, raw material planning with forecasting accuracy) and areas for improvement (rejection levels, efficiency matrices, workflow losses, shop floor management, waste elimination) for cost-effective commercial settlements.
  • Optimize input raw materials and post-operation expenses.
  • Negotiate Machine Hour Rate (MHR) with suppliers for press/CNC/VMC/Coating processes at competitive prices.
  • Analyze expenses to generate cost-saving ideas.
  • Settle supplier claims and negotiate effectively.
Key Knowledge & Skills:
  • Process understanding (drawn, forming, machining, surface finishing).
  • Understanding of raw material grades.
  • Awareness of Quality Systems - IATF 2016 System knowledge - Core tools- APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA.
  • Knowledge of processing details and machine MHR rates.
  • Understanding of raw material rates.
  • Awareness of AUTOCAD/3D Software, some experience.
  • Awareness of location-wise lander labor rates, landed electricity charges, and their break-ups.
  • Awareness of skill enhancement methodologies to boost productivity and efficiency for commercial aspects.
  • Awareness of line balancing, KANBAN, JIT, and TQM techniques, along with their applications in commercial contexts.
  • Awareness of existing tax structures and legal compliance.
  • Analytical skills: Costing.
