Job Description

 Overview:

The Database Systems Engineer will design and implement complex data systems using Cloud Native principles and best practices to ensure highly available, secure, performant, and scalable database systems. This includes planning and deploying database infrastructure build out and performing upgrades and migrations as needed.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement complex data systems using Cloud Native principles and best practices.
  • Plan and deploy database infrastructure build out and perform upgrades and migrations as needed.
  • Expertise in Aurora PostgreSQL database performance, scalability, query tuning, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Contribute to infrastructure changes on AWS with deep understanding of AWS services.
  • Manage complex data replication environments serving batch as well as real-time use cases.
  • Engage in on-call for production systems and respond to incoming alerts.
  • Contribute to major system upgrades, deployment automation, monitoring enhancements, and production changes.
  • Develop operational playbooks, contribute to how-to articles, and gain domain knowledge to drive team improvements.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on development and operational experience with Postgres (AWS Aurora Postgres).
  • Experience with AWS Data Migration Service.
  • Extensive performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning experience.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and hands-on knowledge of hosting on cloud.
  • Experience with DevOps automation programming languages such as Java, Python, or Shell.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Splunk, and Wavefront is a plus.
