Music Instructor Position

We are seeking an experienced and passionate music instructor to join our dynamic team of special educators. This role involves teaching music lessons that cater to diverse learners, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

The ideal candidate must have expertise in designing and implementing adaptive music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities. They should have training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices and experience with communication aids.

A strong interpersonal skills, along with patience, creativity, and a positive attitude, are essential for this role. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons, using adaptive techniques, encouraging expression and communication, and collaborating with occupational therapists and other specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities.
  • Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with Therapists: Work with occupational therapists and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
  • 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
