ICU and OT Nurse Roles and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and manage critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and other life-supporting treatments, maintaining accurate records of treatment plans.
  • Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, ECG machines, and infusion pumps, troubleshooting technical issues promptly.
  • Perform regular assessments of vital signs, documenting patient progress and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with doctors, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to develop comprehensive patient management plans.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families, fostering a positive and compassionate care environment.
  • Maintain strict infection control and hygiene standards, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities of an Operating Theatre (OT) Nurse
  • Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and sterile equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures as a scrub or circulating nurse, providing expert technical support and maintaining clear communication.
  • Ensure strict aseptic techniques and OT protocols are followed, minimizing the risk of complications and promoting excellent patient outcomes.
  • Handle surgical instruments, sponges, sutures, and other tools efficiently, maintaining high levels of organization and productivity.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, making adjustments to care plans as needed.
  • Document surgery details, medication administration, and post-op recovery accurately, using clear and concise language.
  • Coordinate with anesthesiologists and surgical teams for smooth operation flow, prioritizing effective communication and teamwork.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in Nursing (GNM / B.Sc.) from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with the State Nursing Council.
  • 1–5 years of relevant clinical experience in ICU or OT preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Proficiency in emergency response, infection control, and sterile techniques.
  • Strong communication, observation, and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work in rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
