Portfolio Manager

The primary objective of a Portfolio Manager is to oversee the investment strategies and asset allocation for clients or organizations.

They must have a deep understanding of the financial markets, including stock analysis, portfolio optimization, and risk management.

  • Eligibility Criteria:
  1. The applicant must be a registered body corporate with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  2. It should possess necessary infrastructure, including office space, equipment, and manpower.
  3. It shall appoint a compliance officer to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  4. The principal officer must have a professional qualification in law, finance, accountancy, business management, or CFA certification.
  5. He has at least five years of experience in related activities in the securities market, including portfolio management, stock broking, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management.

Provided that at least two years of relevant experience is in portfolio management, investment advisory services, or areas related to fund management.

  • Has obtained NISM XXI-B certification.
    • Except for the PO and CO, the applicant employs at least one person who is a graduate with at least two years of experience in related activities in the securities market, including portfolio management, stock broking, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management. If this person is a fund manager, he must meet the same qualification, experience, and certification requirements as the PO.
    • The applicant meets the net worth requirement of INR 5 crores.
    • NET WORTH = Paid-up equity capital + free reserves (excluding reserves created out of revaluation) - Accumulated losses - Deferred expenditure not written off (includes miscellaneous expenses not written off).
    • Net worth requirements under PMS are separate from capital adequacy requirements for each activity undertaken by the applicant under relevant regulations.
    • The applicant, its director, principal officer, compliance officer, or employees are not involved in any litigation or convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude.
    • The applicant is a fit and proper person, as per the criteria outlined in Schedule II of the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008.
    • The grant of a certificate to the applicant is in the interest of investors.
    • Application Form A must be filed with SEBI, along with the fee. The fee structure is:
    • Application fees: INR 1 lakh
    • Registration fees: INR 10 lakhs
    • Renewal fees (to keep registration in force): INR 5 lakhs to be paid every 3 years
