Product Owner - Healthcare IT Domain

Becoming a Product Owner in the healthcare IT domain is an exciting opportunity to bridge the gap between business and technical teams. This role requires both domain knowledge and technical understanding, as well as strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the product backlog to determine which features the development team should prioritize.
  • Break down complex features into user stories that are easily understandable by developers.
  • Act as the voice of the business for the development team, ensuring customer and product needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to establish feature priorities.
  • Review test cases to ensure they meet acceptance criteria.
  • Approve completed user stories after testing and demonstration.
  • Develop UML diagrams to visualize workflow processes.
  • Create wireframes to illustrate new feature designs.
  • Understand system architecture, data flow, and integrations between different healthcare systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong domain knowledge of healthcare workflows or revenue cycle processes.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Ability to write requirement documents and create simple mockups of screens.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Knowledge of APIs, SQL databases, and system integrations.
  • Expertise in backlog management.
Good to Have
  • Basic SQL query writing skills.
  • Cloud basics (AWS).
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT standards (FHIR, HL7, REST APIs, EHR systems).
  • Knowledge of system integration tools (Rhapsody, Corepoint, Mirth).
Soft Skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex topics in simple language.
  • Decision-making skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
Education/Certifications
  • No strict education or certification requirements listed, but relevant certifications (HL7, FHIR, AWS, Agile/Scrum) would be beneficial.
Experience
  • Total: 5+ years of overall experience.
  • Relevant: 3+ years of experience in Healthcare IT as a Business Analyst/Product Owner.
