Senior PostgreSQL Support Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Support Engineer to join our team. This position involves providing expert-level technical support for complex PostgreSQL-related issues.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary escalation point for intricate incidents, utilizing deep knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Lead the design and automation of PostgreSQL deployments in Kubernetes environments, focusing on efficient Helm chart creation, CRD configuration, and Terraform or Ansible-based automation.
  • Collaborate with clients to analyze performance bottlenecks, optimize query execution plans, and implement capacity planning strategies.
  • Develop high-availability configurations using Patroni, repmgr, streaming replication, synchronous replication, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability pipelines utilizing Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, and VictoriaMetrics, integrated with ELK/EFK stacks for logs and traces.
  • Ensure database security and compliance through encryption at rest (TDE, LUKS), TLS in transit, role-based access control, and audit logging, adhering to GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001 requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers in best practices, including schema design, indexing strategies, partitioning, and PL/pgSQL development patterns.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases, author runbooks, and refine support playbooks to foster continuous improvement.
  • Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of experience administering PostgreSQL in production environments at scale (v9.6–15+).
  • Deep expertise in Linux (RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu) and shell scripting (Bash, Python).
  • Proven track record with Kubernetes and PostgreSQL Operators.
  • Strong understanding of performance tuning: query plans, WAL tuning, connection pooling (PgBouncer, Pgpool-II).
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus/Grafana monitoring stacks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written/spoken English, and customer-facing skills.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience with cloud-native services (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Background in backup/restore strategies (pgBackRest, Barman), PITR, and logical backup tooling.
  • Working knowledge of NoSQL integrations (TimescaleDB, PostGIS, Citus).
  • Certifications: CKA, CKAD, or PostgreSQL Certified Professional.
