Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to join our team at Emerson. As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for creating high-quality technical documentation for our software products. This includes writing user manuals, reference manuals, data sheets, and online help files.

You will work closely with our development team, validators, and product managers to understand product requirements and ensure that our documentation meets the highest standards. Your strong writing and communication skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with other writers on the team to ensure consistency across all types of technical documentation.

We value independence, self-reliance, and a passion for writing. You will be responsible for editing documents for grammar, spelling, format, style, controlled English, accuracy, and ambiguity. You will also apply formats according to style guides and controlled English standards with minimal rework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write high-quality technical documentation that is clear, concise, and easy to understand.
  • Edit documents for grammar, spelling, format, style, controlled English, accuracy, and ambiguity.
  • Apply formats according to style guides and controlled English standards with minimal rework.
  • Collaborate with developers, validators, and product managers to understand product requirements.
  • Work with other writers on the team to ensure consistency across all types of technical documentation.
  • Meet prescribed deadlines and commitments while ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Organize and conduct meetings or interviews with development engineers and other department SMEs to gather pertinent information for documentation.
  • Work autonomously in labs and make use of existing information found on intranet and internet.
  • Possess a solid base of computer skills and understand content management software such as FrameMaker, MadCap, Paligo, or similar software.
  • Quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in project conference calls to discuss status and queries.
  • Attend all assigned training sessions to develop/enhance skills.
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts to improve documentation clarity and ease of use.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the technical writing field, focusing on software products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience with content management authoring software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word and Visio).
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to interact and gather information from geographically dispersed members.
  • Self-motivated and willing to accept challenging assignments.
  • Passion to learn new products and share knowledge.
  • Experience in the power generation field is a plus.
