DB2 Database Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled DB2 Database Systems Engineer to manage, optimize, and support our DB2 database environments. This role requires strong expertise in DB2 administration, performance tuning, high availability, backup/recovery strategies, and troubleshooting critical production issues.

About the Role:

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain DB2 database systems for optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor and analyze database performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and enforce robust database security, user access control, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with application teams to design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents, outages, and performance issues.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive DBA documentation, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
  • Support automation initiatives for DB2 administration and monitoring to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Requirements:

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience in DB2 database administration, with expertise in LUW and/or z/OS.
  • Strong knowledge of performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with HADR, Data Sharing, and replication technologies to ensure data consistency and availability.
  • Proficiency in backup/recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and execution.
  • Solid understanding of database security principles, roles, and privileges to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting (Shell/Perl/Python) and automation tools to streamline tasks and improve productivity.
  • Knowledge of OS-level concepts related to DB2, including Linux, Unix, and Windows.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to work in 24x7 production environments.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with cross-functional teams.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with cloud database services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Knowledge of other RDBMS, including Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with DevOps/CI-CD integration for databases to improve agility and efficiency.
