Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and skilled database administrator to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure, scalable, and highly available database solutions.

  • Design and implement databases that meet business requirements and ensure data security.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and storage management.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery strategies and backup/restore processes.
  • Implement and enforce database security controls, including encryption, access controls, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support software releases and schema changes.
  • Automate routine database operations using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Manage and troubleshoot replication, clustering, and failover configurations.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and 7+ years of hands-on experience in database administration, design, and performance tuning.
  • Expertise in SQL Server, with working knowledge of other RDBMS (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL).
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance analysis tools.
  • Experience with HA/DR solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication).
  • Solid understanding of database security, compliance, and role-based access control.
  • Proficient in automation scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or Bash).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating DB changes into DevOps workflows.
  • Experience in cloud-based database platforms (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds) preferred.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL systems (e.g., Cosmos DB, MongoDB, Redis) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the financial services industry.
